Barcelona Eye Inter Duo Lautaro Martinez & Alessandro Bastoni for Summer Swoop

2 min read

Barcelona have earmarked Lautaro Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni as two key targets for the summer, with Inter already planning to find replacements if the pair leave.

Martinez has been in superb form this season, netting 15 goals in 25 matches, meanwhile central defender Bastoni has become a regular fixture in the first-team and bagged his first goal for the club in the recent draw with Lecce.

It is no secret that Barça are on the lookout for a new striker, as Luis Suarez enters the latter stages of his career at 33 years old. Still undoubtedly talented, the Uruguayan is set to be out until May at the earliest following knee surgery, and the current La Liga leaders are eager to bring someone in with long-term view in mind.

Martinez has been heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou since the previous transfer window, but AS claim that any move will be kept until the summer. His release clause stands at €111m, a substantial fee but one Barça are willing to pay in order to secure Suarez’s successor.

It’s added that La Blaugrana’s interest is so concrete, that Inter are already weighing up replacements for the Argentine. One of those is Fernando Llorente, who Antonio Conte has already spoken to with a view to bringing him to Milan this window, this despite him only joining SSC Napoli on a free transfer last September. At 34, Llorente would not be a long-term solution.

However, according to the Spanish outlet, Quique Setién’s side are not content with just one Inter player. Indeed, they’re also keeping close tabs on Bastoni, who could be involved in the deal that would see Martinez swap Serie A for La Liga.

Having let Jean-Clair Todibo leave on loan this Janaury, Barça have just three senior centre-backs in Gerard Piqué, Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet, therefore are eyeing up other options should Todibo not return to Catalonia.

Highly-rated Italy Under-21 international Bastoni is high on their radar, something Inter’s CEO Giuseppe Marotta is well aware of, as he’s already began scouting replacements for central defender.

With a week left remaining of the transfer window, no deal for either player is likely to occur until the summer, but the fact that Inter are already preparing themselves for La Blaugrana’s expected approach suggests a move in July is highly likely.
