Barcelona have made a mammoth €80m bid to bring Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder to Camp Nou, following the news of Luis Suarez’s long-term injury layoff.
La Blaugrana received a huge blow at the start of 2020, when their Uruguayan star underwent knee surgery which is set to keep him out of action for the majority of the season.
Barça are keen to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the final months of the campaign, and Foot Mercato reports that the Catalan giants have been impressed by Ben Yedder’s form for Monaco this season, and they have even tabled an €80m offer for the striker.
Ben Yedder has lit up Ligue 1 this year, netting 14 goals in 19 league matches for Les Monégasques. The Frenchman arrived from Sevilla in the summer in a deal worth around €40m, and it appears that Barça are willing to pay double that figure to bring the forward back to La Liga.
The Spanish champions have looked lacklustre in front of goal in recent weeks, scoring a solitary goal in their narrow win over Granada, before slipping to a 2-0 defeat to Valencia on Saturday afternoon.
The injured Suarez had contributed 11 goals in 17 matches this year, and he is being sorely missed on the pitch despite his advancing years.
Foot Mercato also reports that meetings have taken place between Monaco and Barcelona officials over a possible move for Ben Yedder in January, but the Ligue 1 side are determined not to lose their star asset mid-season.
Barcelona’s eye-watering offer of €80m may prove too good to turn down, but la Blaugrana have denied making such an offer, with Monaco insisting that it has been made.
Los Cules have other targets in their cross-hairs however, should a deal for Ben Yedder prove too complicated to materialise. Valencia striker Rodrigo remains a firm favourite among Barça officials, and the club may make an approach for the Spaniard before the transfer window draws to a close.
