Leeds Struggling to Offload Ouasim Bouy – Who Is Refusing to Leave the Club

2 min read

Leeds United are desperate to rid themselves of midfielder Ouasim Bouy this month, but the player is refusing to leave or have his contract terminated.

Marcelo Bielsa has been keen to sell the Dutchman some time, and even tried to gpart with the player last summer after he returned from a loan stint at PEC Zwolle.

However, according to The Athletic, the 26-year-old is refusing to depart. As well as that, instead of training, he spends most of his time in Holland during the week.

Journalist Phil Hay said in response to a question: “From time to time he goes back to Holland, but he’s been finished at Leeds for a long time and they would love to get him off the wage bill.

“Unfortunately he’s got a four year deal at Elland Road and Leeds haven’t been able to find a way to sever that. He’ll never play under Bielsa and in the summer he was training at completely different times to the first team. It’s been a pointless signing.”

As referenced, Bielsa is desperate to get Bouy off his books, but with the player happy to pick up his pay cheque whilst doing nothing, it is proving difficult. There is little interest from any other club, which is understandable due to his current situation.

Bouy came with quite high expectations after joining the club on a free from Italian giants Juventus. However, things haven’t panned out quite how Leeds would have liked.

Bouy had a moderately successful stint in the Eredvisie last season though, as he played 23 games in all competitions for PEC Zwolle.

On the pitch on Saturday, Leeds fell to a 1-0 Championship defeat to QPR, in a blow to their hopes of automatic promotion from the Championship.
