Leicester Planning for Life After Ben Chilwell With Move for Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand

2 min read

Leicester City are thought to be considering a move for Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand, should Ben Chilwell leave the club this summer.

Chilwell is of interest to both Manchester City and Chelsea, and the pair are likely to make bids for the 23-year-old in the summer.

Ben Chilwell

Leicester have refused to sell in January, but MailOnline Sport suggest they could be preparing for his eventual departure by targeting a move for Southampton full-back Bertrand.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has worked with Bertrand at both Chelsea and Reading, while he was even rumoured to be keen on signing him during his time with Liverpool (probably because he was a Southampton player).

He may finally get the chance to reunite with Bertrand once more as Chelsea are likely to push their efforts to sign Chilwell at the end of the current campaign. What’s clear is that Leicester want a suitable replacement identified, before they agree to any sale.

However, Inter and Chelsea are both also monitoring Bertrand’s situation. He has just 18 months remaining on his current contract and is expected to attract plenty of interest in the coming months.

Leicester, however, have more irons in the fire. 90min has learned that Rodgers remains keen on striking a deal for Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney, who has struggled with injury during his debut season at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal do not want to sell, although their attempts to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Layvin Kurzawa suggests that Mikel Arteta is not entirely happy with his current options in the position.

Kieran Tierney

Celtic have expressed an interest in bringing Tierney back on loan to help him build up his match fitness, but Leicester are contemplating rivalling any bid as they look to figure out a way to replace Chilwell.

With Chelsea expected to throw their all at signing Chilwell in the summer, Leicester know they must act smartly and decisively to ensure they have all bases covered.
