Adama Traoré

Assist

Wolverhampton Wanderers

82′ It was good play from Traore on the right to fairly win the ball back and put a quick cross into the box to catch out City and set up the goal.

R. Jiménez

Goal

Wolverhampton Wanderers

82′ WOLVES ARE LEVEL! It starts with Mendy trying to see the ball out of play when Traore pushes him off it. Jimenez is waiting in the middle to get on the end of his cross and taps it into the back of the net from close range. 2-2!

81′ Neto makes a good run down the left wing to get away from Walker and puts a good cross into the box. Jimenez is waiting in the middle, but Otamendi gets back to hook the ball away just in time.

Pedro Neto

Diogo Jota

Wolverhampton Wanderers

79′ Another change for Wolves now and it’s Jota that’s coming off. Neto is on in his place.

77′ GREAT CHANCE! Wolves have another free-kick in a dangerous position on the left again and Moutinho swings a good cross into the box yet again. It goes through to Doherty at the far post but he sends it high over the crossbar from close range.

75′ Three of Traore’s five Premier League goals this season have come against City.

73′ CLOSE! Wolves have a free-kick on the left wing which is swung into the six-yard box by Moutinho. It’s Saiss that gets to it and he flicks his header on but sends it wide of the far post.

Rúben Vinagre

Jonny Castro

Wolverhampton Wanderers

73′ Wolves make their first change of the game now and it’s Vinagre coming on to replace Jonny.

71′ It’s all Wolves at the moment as they continue to push forward in search of an equaliser. Traore tries to switch play out to the left with Jota but overhits his pass and it’s cleared by Walker.

69′ GOOD CHANCE! Traore pulls away from both Mendy and Silva as he cuts inside from the right before he drills his shot towards goal. It’s not going into the corner this time which makes it easier for Bravo to make the save.

İ. Gündoğan

K. De Bruyne

Manchester City

67′ That was De Bruyne’s last involvement in the game as he’s being taken off by Guardiola so Gundogan can come on.

66′ De Bruyne is trying to make something for City and he does well to keep hold of the ball as he moves up the field. He holds off Coady on the edge of the box before turning and drilling his shot towards the near post, but his effort is wide.

64′ Dendoncker finds himself high up the field in a lot of space and decides to have a shot from long range. Silva can’t get across in time to make a block, but it’s at a comfortable height for Bravo who holds onto it.

62′ Traore does well to swing a cross into the box from the byline on the right as he’s under pressure from Mendy. Jimenez gets on the end of it in the middle, but it’s a poor header from him that’s cleared by Fernandinho.

N. Otamendi

Yellow Card

Manchester City

60′ Otamendi picks up the first yellow card of the game after he catches Jota with a late challenge after missing the ball.

59′ Wolves win a free-kick in a good position on the left wing and Moutinho swings it into the box for the home side. He picks out Saiss at the near post, but his looping header is caught by Bravo.

57′ Fernandinho almost plays his side into the trouble as he takes too long to bring the ball down. Jimenez is quickly across to him and gets the ball back before Bravo comes off his line to collect it and end the attack.

Rúben Neves

Assist

Wolverhampton Wanderers

55′ It’s crowded on the edge of the box and Neves does really well to pick out Traore between the City defenders around him.

Adama Traoré

Goal

Wolverhampton Wanderers

55′ WOLVES HAVE ONE BACK! City just can’t get tight enough to Traore as he takes a touch on the edge of the box before drilling his effort low and into the far bottom corner where Bravo can’t reach it. Wolves are back in the game. 2-1!

54′ Jimenez is once again given a lot of space on the edge of the box and he decides to have a shot. It curls just wide of the far post and he claims there was a deflection, but the referee gives a goal-kick.

52′ Wolves have two shouts for a penalty after Jota and Jonny both go to ground. Jota is being closely marked by Walker when he goes down but the referee waves it away and Jonny is caught on the edge of the area by Rodri. VAR has a look at both but doesn’t award the penalty.

K. De Bruyne

Assist

Manchester City

50′ It’s a great throughball from De Bruyne to pick out Sterling’s run and set up the goal for City.

R. Sterling

Goal

Manchester City

50′ STERLING HAS A SECOND! He times his run perfectly to stay onside and get on the end of De Bruyne’s pass. He cuts inside from the left to get more space before chipping his effort over Patricio and into the back of the net. 2-0 City!

49′ Sterling does really well to keep hold of the ball on the right wing under pressure from Saiss but when he tries to play in Rodri behind him, he plays the pass short and gifts possession back to Wolves.

47′ GREAT CHANCE! Wolves have started the half quickly and Jimenez chips the ball over City’s defenders to pick out Jota’s run. He then tries to chip Bravo, but can’t get it right as he sends it over the bar.

46′ Wolves get us back underway for the second half!

Eric García

R. Mahrez

Manchester City

46′ Guardiola makes his second change at the start of the second half and it’s a defensive one as Garcia replaces Mahrez.

Despite the fact that City are leading, Guardiola will not be happy at half-time. They still looked bright after Ederson’s red card, but after scoring, they started dropping back and letting Wolves have the ball. He’ll want to see more from them after the break to make sure they come away with a win. Wolves haven’t used their man advantage yet, having only one effort on target and Nuno will want to see more in the second half.

City lead Wolves 1-0 at the break despite only being down to 10 men. Ederson got sent off in the 12th minute after he came out of his box to close down Jota’s run and was the last man when he caught the midfielder. VAR awarded City a penalty after Mahrez was caught by Dendoncker and Sterling saw his spot-kick saved. VAR then showed it should be retaken as Wolves were encroaching and Sterling saw his second penalty saved, but then scored on the rebound with a tap-in.

45′ + 8′ HALF-TIME: WOLVES 0-1 MANCHESTER CITY.

45′ + 6′ Sterling is trying to help his side get out of their own half as he drops deep to pick up the ball. He turns past Doherty on the left and ends up winning a free-kick to help take the pressure off City.

45′ + 4′ Traore is running onto Neves’ throughball on the edge of the box and Otamendi can’t get there to prevent the shot. It’s dragged well wide by the Traore though and he can’t trouble Bravo.

45′ + 2′ As we go into the second of seven added minutes, City are finding it hard to keep hold of the ball. Bravo slices at a clearance and gifts the ball back to Neves in the middle of the field and then it hits Silva’s hand when he tries to win it back.

45′ Jimenez gets his head up on the edge of the box before curling an effort around Otamendi towards goal. It looks comfortable for Bravo in the middle of his goal until he spills it, but luckily, no Wolves players have followed it in and he is able to hold onto it the second time.

43′ City are struggling to get out of their own half at the moment as Wolves continue to peg them back. Jonny puts another good cross into the box and City struggle to clear their lines, until eventually, Bravo is able to collect the loose ball.

41′ Jonny whips a brilliant cross into the far post from the edge of the box on the left. Traore is running onto it from the opposite wing and hits the shot on the volley, but it’s well blocked by Fernandinho.

39′ Wolves are starting to see a little bit more of the ball now as they start to put more pressure on City. It’s a good cross into the box from Doherty to pick out Jimenez, but Otamendi reaches it first to clear his lines.

37′ Jonny goes down after being caught by Otamendi on his shoulder. He’s receiving treatment on it now, but he’s quickly back to his feet and will be able to carry on.

35′ Only Jimenez (24) hs been directly involved in more goals in all competitions amongst Premier League players this season than Sterling (23 – 19 goals, four assists).

33′ It’s a nervy moment for Bravo as he wants too long on the ball after getting a backpass from Walker. Jimenez is quickly closing him down and forces the goalkeeper to kick the ball straight out of play.

31′ City are dropping back and sitting deep in their own half when Wolves have the ball to make it harder for the home side to go on the attack.

29′ City quickly move the ball upfield as they try to catch out Wolves. It’s a good pass from De Bruyne into Sterling on the right and he decides to go for goal on the edge of the box. He slices at it and the shot flies high over the bar.

27′ Wolves are on the attack now following the restart, but they’re having to patiently move out from the back as City are closing them down much quicker than before.

R. Sterling

Goal

Manchester City

25′ NOW HE’S SCORED! The rebound from the penalty is palmed straight into Sterling’s path by the goalkeeper and this time, he finds the back of the empty net with a simple tap-in from close range. 1-0 City!

Rui Patrício

Penalty Save

Wolverhampton Wanderers

25′ Patricio guesses the right way again as he goes low to his right and palms the ball away from his goal to save his second penalty of the game.

R. Sterling

Penalty Miss

Manchester City

25′ IT’S SAVED AGAIN! Sterling goes for the same tactic as he did the first time, keeping his shot low and going for the bottom left corner. Once again though, he’s denied by Patricio.

25′ IT’S ANOTHER PENALTY! Patricio looked to have stayed on his line but there was encroachment on the edge of the box by the Wolves players and Sterling has a chance to retake it.

Penalty Save

24′ IT’S SAVED! Sterling is the player that steps up to take it and it’s a confident run up from him. He hits it low towards the bottom left corner, but it’s saved by Patricio.

23′ PENALTY! It’s a long check from VAR, but the referee’s original decision has been overturned and City have a chance to take the lead from the penalty spot.

21′ Mahrez seemed to be caught by Dendoncker as he made a run down the left of the box and he went to ground holding his foot. The referee awarded a goal-kick, but VAR is having a look at the incident to see if City should have a penalty.

20′ The corner is swung into the box for Wolves and it’s not cleared by City as it goes through to the far post. It’s an awkward one for Doherty at the far post but he improvises well as he backheels the ball towards goal and it’s caught by Bravo.

19′ Traore is getting more space down the right now and he’s had two good opportunities to put a cross into the box. Mendy has been able to block both though and Wolves now have a corner.

17′ Ederson is the second goalkeeper to be sent off for City in the Premier League, after Andy Dibble in October 1994.

15′ Moutinho takes the free-kick for Wolves from just outside the box. He curls his effort over the wall, but it’s straight at Bravo, who’s first involvement is a comfortable save.

C. Bravo

S. Agüero

Manchester City

14′ Aguero’s first start after returning from injury is much shorter than expected as he is the player that’s taken off by Guardiola so Bravo can come onto the pitch.

Ederson Moraes

Red Card

Manchester City

12′ EDERSON IS SENT OFF! It’s a long ball over the top from Coady to Jota and he gets away from Otamendi and is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Ederson comes out of his box quickly to close him down but catches Jota without getting near the ball and the referee shows him a straight red card. City down to 10 men!

10′ Mendy and Dendoncker clashed heads as they both tried to head the ball down. They’re both receiving treatment, with Mendy getting back to his feet first. Dendoncker seems to be struggling and it’s unclear if he’ll be able to carry on.

8′ Mahrez’s cross takes a deflection and Saiss isn’t in a hurry to clear it away, not realising De Bruyne is behind him. The Belgian takes a heavy touch though which just gives Coady chance to get across and clear the danger.

6′ Coady goes for the long pass over the top to pick out Traore and he brings it down well. He plays a one-two with Jimenez to get into more space but can’t put a cross into the middle of the box from the byline after a heavy touch.

4′ City are seeing a lot of the ball in the opening moments and are patiently playing out from the back. De Bruyne has it down the right, but Saiss gets out to him quickly to block his run down the wing.

2′ Mahrez spots Sterling in a lot of space down the left wing and tries to lift the ball into his path. It’s just ahead of him though and he can’t bring it down on the stretch before it bounces out of play.

1′ Aguero gets the game underway for City!

The teams are out on the pitch now, with kick-off just moments away.

Guardiola has won 99 of his 132 Premier League games so far. A win over Wolves will see him break Jose Mourinho’s record for the fewest number of games to reach 100 wins, with Mourinho doing it in 142 matches.

Guardiola makes just two changes to his team after their win over Leicester City last time out. Aguero gets his first start after returning from injury and Rodri also comes in. Gundogan drops to the bench and Gabriel Jesus misses out through illness.

Nuno Espirito Santo was clearly impressed with his side’s performance last Saturday as his side can from behind to beat Norwich City 2-1. He names an unchanged team today.

MANCHESTER CITY SUBS: Claudio Bravo, Ilkay Gundogan, Angelino, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Eric Garcia, Joao Cancelo, Phil Foden.

MANCHESTER CITY STARTING XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Kyle Walker, Fernandinho, Nicolas Otamendi, Benjamin Mendy; Kevin De Bruyne, Rodrigo, Bernardo Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling.

WOLVES SUBS: John Ruddy, Ruben Vinagre, Max Kilman, Jesus Vallejo, Patrick Cutrone, Ryan Bennett, Pedro Neto.

WOLVES STARTING XI (3-4-2-1): Rui Patricio; Leander Dendoncker, Conor Coady, Romain Saiss; Matt Doherty, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Jonny; Adama Traore, Diogo Jota; Raul Jimenez.

City have the chance to leapfrog Leicester City into second place if they avoid defeat today after the Foxes lost to Liverpool yesterday. Pep Guardiola’s side have won their last four games in all competitions since losing the Manchester derby earlier this month. They face a Wolves side who have lost just one of their last 11 matches in all competitions (W6 D4) and who are looking to do the double over them after beating them 2-0 at the Etihad in October.
