Liverpool left ‘deeply unimpressed’ by misinformation spread over van Dijk injury / Klopp remained coy on details

4 min read

Reports have emerged this morning that Liverpool are not impressed by the coverage of beIN SPORTS after the club’s 2-2 draw in the Merseyside derby.

During the game, Virgil van Dijk was subjected to a serious challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The incident left the Dutch defender clutching his knee but was able to walk off the field off play without assistance.

This would have left many to believe the affliction not too serious. However, after beIN SPORTS presenter Richard Keys delivered information to viewers that van Dijk could be out for 7-8 months, panic set in.

As such an integral figure for Liverpool, any information breaking regarding an absence would cause hysteria. Liverpool have looked defensively thwarted without Brazilian keeper Alisson, therefore any further key absentees would be hugely detrimental.

Not happy

Despite the news circulating about the Dutch defender, Liverpool never confirmed the extent of the injuries. Furthermore, the club is unhappy with how accusations of a possible injury had surfaced despite no scans taking place.

After the game, Jurgen Klopp was asked about the wellbeing of his defender but remained coy.

“I don’t know [how serious it is], I don’t know, but it is not good,” the German said.

“Virgil played for us I don’t know how many games in a row. He plays with pain, he plays with pretty much everything, but he couldn’t play on. That’s not good.”

Liverpool have upcoming Champions League responsibilities. Plus, the title-bout between the Merseyside club and Manchester City is on the 7th November. Whether or not van Dijk’s injury is as serious as first feared, a return within a month appears unlikely.
