Man United’s 2019/20
Manchester United’s 2019/20 campaign has been something of a mixed bag.
The first half of the season was especially poor from a Red Devils perspective.
However, the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January, coupled with the returns of Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba after the restart really helped turn United’s season around.
And whilst they did limp over the line somewhat, Man United were able to clinch a third-place finish in the Premier League this season which, of course, means they will be plying their trade in the Champions League next term.
Elsewhere, United’s exit from the FA Cup vs Chelsea in the semi-final stage will not be something the Reds, especially David de Gea, will be keen to look back on.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. still have one final shot at silverware this term as they are still going strong in the Europa League.
Matic’s target for 2020/21
A 3rd-place finish and a shot at the Europa League isn’t enough for one Man United player going forward though.
Nemanja Matic, who has been on the Manchester powerhouse’s books since the summer of 2017, has recently been discussing his ambitions for the forthcoming campaign with the club’s official website.
And despite finishing a staggering 33 points adrift of champions Liverpool this term, Matic wants to win the Premier League with United next season, or at least be fighting for the title:
“Me, personally, I would like to win the Premier League with Manchester United. I think that our club always needs to fight for the title.
“We always need to try to do the best for this club, which we are doing at the moment, and I think we cannot allow any club to win the league seven or 10 games before the season finishes. So we have to fight until the end.
“Of course, we have a young team, but this cannot be an excuse. I think these young players already have a few seasons behind them playing. So, from the next season, we have to fight for the title. I don’t know if we’re going to win [it] but I’m sure that we can fight until the end.
“That’s my personal target and I think the rest of my team-mates think the same.”
