Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the fitness of Reiss Nelson, following the youngster’s omission from his matchday squad to face Sheffield United.
The Gunners welcomed Chris Wilder’s high-flying Blades to the Emirates yesterday afternoon, for a Premier League clash.
Arteta’s men headed into proceedings in search of a bounce-back result, on the back of a disappointing 1-1 stalemate with Crystal Palace last time out.
This brought to an end a morale-boosting run of 2 straight wins, with Arsenal’s woes having been compounded by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s dismissal at Selhurst Park.
When the 90 minutes were said and done 24 hours ago, however, the north Londoners failed to get back to winning ways.
A back-and-forth affair at the Emirates eventually saw both sides forced to settle for a point.
After Arsenal took a largely-undeserved lead on the stroke of half-time through Gabriel Martinelli, John Fleck levelled things up for Sheffield United 7 minutes from time, to secure a share of the spoils for the visitors.
Highlights: Arsenal 1-1 Sheffield United
As outlined above, Arsenal’s latest sub-par result came with star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sidelined through suspension.
The Gabonese attacker, though, was far from the only member of Mikel Arteta’s squad to have missed out yesterday afternoon.
The likes of Hector Bellerin, Sead Kolasinac and Calum Chambers were all absent with respective fitness problems.
There were also, though, a pair of surprise late omissions for Arsenal.
These came in the form of Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Reiss Nelson.
Ahead of kick-off, it was confirmed that Greek stopper Sokratis was absent through illness.
Nelson, though, was added to the Gunners’ injury list, with a hamstring problem.
As such, speaking on the back of his side’s Sheffield United stalemate, Mikel Arteta was since asked for an update on Nelson’s well-being.
And the Arsenal boss went on to reveal that it is ‘not looking good’ for the English youngster:
‘We had an incident in training. The doctors are still deciding how long it’s going to take, but it’s not looking good.’
What’s the latest on Reiss Nelson?
