Real Madrid have contacted Flamengo over a potential deal for 17-year-old forward Reinier Jesus after his release clause was slashed in half.
The teenager signed a new contract in early November to commit to the club until 2024, but the deal also saw his release clause halved from €70m to €35m to facilitate an exit from the club in the near future.
Real have experience of dealing with Flamengo, having signed winger Vinícius Júnior back in 2017 for €45m, so paying a similar fee for Reinier is certainly a possibility.
Reinier has managed six goals and two assists in 14 appearances for Flamengo this season, attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Chelsea and Arsenal have both been linked, while there has also been serious interest from Spanish rivals Atlético Madrid and Barcelona.
All that interest came while Reinier’s release clause still stood at €70m, so the reduction will likely intrigue countless other sides in the near future.
However, it looks like Real are eager to move ahead in the race for his signature. Los Blancos are always on the lookout for the world’s finest young talent, and Reinier is undoubtedly one of the most in-demand prospects around.
Both Vinícius and fellow youngster Rodrygo have impressed since heading to the Santiago Bernabéu from Brazil, and that will certainly intrigue Reinier.
The teenager is also understood to be a huge fan of both Real and manager Zinedine Zidane, and once confessed (via The Sun) that the Frenchman is actually his idol.
“I’m heavily inspired by Zidane,” he said. “I’ve watched a lot of videos on the internet of him playing. I’m always trying to execute plays like he did.”
You get the sense that Reinier, who posted pictures of himself at the Bernabéu on Instagram back in 2018, would be interested in matching the move to Real, and it looks like the feeling is mutual.
