Tottenham have this evening provided an update on the hamstring injury picked up by Harry Kane, with the news far from positive for all associated with the club.
Spurs fall at Southampton
Jose Mourinho’s men visited St. Mary’s on Wednesday afternoon, for a Premier League meeting with Southampton.
The north Londoners headed into the clash in search of a bounce-back performance, after being held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by bottom-of-the-table Norwich in their preceding outing.
When all was said and done two days ago, however, Spurs failed to get back on track.
A dismal performance on the part of the visitors eventually saw Southampton emerge with all 3 points.
A solitary Danny Ings strike with 17 minutes on the clock proved the difference between the sides, as Tottenham’s top-4 hopes were dealt a blow.
The result at St. Mary’s on Wednesday, however, was far from the only concern for the Lilywhites.
After Tanguy Ndombele was forced off early on, Harry Kane followed suit 20 minutes from time.
The English international stretched to get on the end of a Spurs free-kick into the hosts’ box, and actually managed to find the net.
However, Kane immediately pulled up clutching his hamstring, before limping straight down the tunnel at Carrow Road.
Adding insult to injury was the fact that Kane’s goal was disallowed for offside.
As such, Tottenham have since faced an anxious wait for news as to the well-being of their star hitman.
And, as outlined above, this news has today finally arrived.
In a major blow to the prospects of the north Londoners moving forward, though, it has been confirmed that Kane has suffered a tear in his left hamstring:
‘Following assessment today (Friday), we can confirm that Harry Kane suffered a tear in his left hamstring during our New Year’s Day fixture against Southampton.’
‘Our medical staff will continue to review the injury with treatment ongoing.’

The 26-year-old has since taken to social media, to react to the news on his injury:
