Well, that came out of nowhere, didn’t it?
Despite Manchester City’s dramatic defeat to Wolves on Friday evening, Pep Guardiola once again revealed that the club will not be pursuing anyone in the upcoming January transfer window.
However, roughly 12 hours later, Real Sociedad ‘confirmed’ that attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard would be joining the Manchester-based side on loan. Shock.
The 21-year-old prodigy is on loan at Sociedad from parent club Real Madrid, where he is continuing to impress this season.
The statement declared: “Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Manchester City over the loan of Martin Odegaard. The player is set to stay at City until the end of the season.”
“The club wants to thank and offer recognition for the job done by Martin. He has shown great professionalism, dedication and loyalty to this club and we wish him well for the future. We are forced to take this difficult decision in order to avoid possible media comments for the next six months. What a relief!”
At first glance, it appeared as though City fans had something to celebrate. Fans and football lovers from across the globe quickly took to social media to express their disbelief…
How do city get these deals done so swiftly FML. Learn a thing or two Woodward

However, it didn’t take long for people to point out that the Spanish equivalent of the UK’s April Fool’s Day is on 28 December.
Ah yes, of course, Día de los Santos Inocentes! How could we forget?
However, there were some who were still clearly out of the loop.
Someone going to tell them?
And although it was just some lighthearted fun, some were left far from impressed with the prank.
Just not having it…
It would be a good joke if he wasn’t already on loan with you. Can’t loan out a loan player. Try harder

Well, you can’t please everyone, can you?
Sociedad host Villarreal in La Liga on Sunday, hoping to pick up all three points. That is, with the services of Odegaard, of course.
As for City, well, they will be hoping to bounce back from their latest defeat when they host surprise package Sheffield United on Sunday.
