West Ham have announced that David Moyes has returned to the club on an 18-month deal to replace Manuel Pellegrini as the new head coach.
Pellegrini was relieved of his duties following the Irons’ defeat to Leicester City on Friday, with the club languishing just one place and a single point above the relegation zone.
West Ham have managed just five wins in 19 this season despite a wealth of investment since the Chilean took over and find themselves in real danger of relegation, despite pre-season expectations of a tilt at Europe.
Having made the decision to part with Pellegrini, West Ham have wasted no time in drafting in a replacement, with the club announcing that Moyes has returned for a second spell at the club.
“It’s fabulous to be back,” Moyes said via a West Ham statement. “It feels great to be home. I’ve missed being here because I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed being around the stadium and I loved being in this part of the world and I missed the Club, so I can’t wait to get started.
“I’m feeling very proud that I’m back here at West Ham. But I think more importantly I’ll be looking to see what I can do and what I can make improvements to, how we can get some wins with the players and how we can get some quick wins on the field as well.

“I do believe that the squad of players I’ve got here is a better squad of players than when I took over before, so I am looking forward to working with them.”
The Scot was first recruited by the club in November 2017, as they faced a similar predicament. The former Everton and Manchester United boss helped the Hammers steer clear of danger into 13th place.
He was let go upon the expiry of his short-term deal the following summer, with the club opting to go in another direction, but 18 months after his departure, he has once again been tasked with rescuing the Hammers’ season.
