Zlatan Ibrahimovic Becomes Quickest Player to Reach 150 Wins in Serie A History

2 min read

Zlatan Ibrahimovic became the quickest player in Serie A history to reach 150 victories in the ‘three points for a win’ era, after Milan came from behind to beat Udinese on Sunday afternoon.

Udinese thought they had snatched a draw when Kevin Lasagna headed home with five minutes left to play, but Ante Rebic’s second goal of the game handed the hosts all three points, and helped their Swedish superstar to write his name into the record books.

Opta released the telling statistic at the final whistle, confirming that Ibrahimovic had collected his 150th win in 222 top flight fixtures, reaching that figure in eight games fewer than previous record-holder Esteban Cambiasso.

Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne and Inter icon Maicon now sit joint third in the list, with the pair racking up 150 wins in 232 Serie A clashes. Another Inter full-back – and previously a part of Juventus’ title-winning side – Kwadwo Asamoah completes the top five, achieving the impressive feat in 235 matches.

Ibrahimovic returned to Milan in January, having previously left I Rossoneri in 2012. The 38-year-old helped the Italian giants to lift the Serie A title in 2011, but he has returned to a very different team following his spell in the United States.

The Italian giants have put in some abject displays this season, which led to the sacking of previous coach Marco Giampaolo. New boss Stefano Pioli also struggled to turn the tide at San Siro, but I Rossoneri are slowly beginning to show signs of progress under the ex-Fiorentina man.

Milan’s improvements have coincided with the return of the talismanic Ibrahimovic, who bagged his first goal for the club in their 2-0 victory over Cagliari, on the Swede’s first start of his second spell.

Sunday’s last-gasp victory over Udinese lifts Milan to eighth in the Serie A table, only seven points behind fourth place Atalanta.
